Birthing Class

I want opinions:
It's $75 for a birthing class and I'm pretty sure we're going to take it.
(I am getting an epidural...not sure if that will change opinions)

If you have kids:
Did you take a birthing class? Would you recommend it?

If you didn't take it, do you wish you would have? Or do you think everything was ok?

No kids:
If you were having a baby would you take a birthing class?

If yes, Should we take it at the hospital where we're delivering or at our doctors office?

If we take it through the hospital a tour is included with the class.
BUT even if we don't take a class, we will still get to do the tour.

No, we didn't do the birthing class. No, we didn't wish we had. We did do a hospital tour, which was fun and I think we'll do one again since we've never been inside Gateway.

No I didn't do the birthing class and no I don't wish that I had. I also did the hospital tour as well. I think between the internet (pregnancyweekly.com is AWESOME!!!) and What to Expect When You're Expecting you get a pretty great variety of information. Hope this helps!! :P)

We are taking a birthing class...it's at the hospital where we will give birth, but here in the middle of no where, we don't have a lot of options. I just feel like since it's the first one I want to get some idea from a human rather than a book about what it's going to be like. But that's just me, I like to hear what other people have to say. Also...I'm "dragging" the hubby cause he's not really reading anything about the whole birth process...lol!

decisions decisions. sorry no idea, i'd probably take the class so that i was more aware of stuff... had suggestions beforehand. and i'd probably take it at the hospital just because - but whatever is closer.

okay, seriously. don't listen to me. NO IDEA! hope you are doing well. and enjoy your gluten free barro's pizza!

Yes, I took the class. No I would never recommend it nor would I take one again. It is useless. With Aiden I didnt tour the hospital and it made no difference to me. I toured Gateway only because I went with friends and it still made no difference to me.

I didn't do any birthing classes or breast feeding classes and I don't wish I had. I knew that there was a nurse with you the whole time during labor telling you what to do so I figured why spend the money. Also, they have a lactation specialist at the hospital if you are having problems who is really good and will help you any way you need.

I did get a tour of the hospital but it really didn't help in any way. I DID like it though because I got to see where everything was at so I had a better idea of what was going down.

No i did not take a birthing class. I didn't want to fork out the money, although I did pay $20 for a breastfeeding class that really didn't help much. I don't regret not doing the birthing class, I felt prepared because of family, friends and books I did a lot of reading

I would definetly take a tour of the hospital. I did with both kids since they were at 2 different hospitals. I liked that I wasn't walking into a strange place for the first time when it was time.

Look at all the commenters!

Pregnancy + mommyhood are definetly hot topics!

Hey Traci! I would definately recommend taking a birthing class because you will be amazed all the things you will learn, especially as a first time mom! I think it is very smart to be educated on your options of birth and the methods available to you! We took a 12 week course (probably more extensive than most) but I cannot imagine having this little girl without it! I have learned so many amazing things about birth, and not only that, but how to avoid certain things and what I can do to prepare my body for them. We are planning a natural childbirth and took the Bradley Method childbirthing classes. I know that is not what you are wanting, but I know there are tons of options out there. I would definately take classes, besides they are an absolute blast!

No birthing class either and I'm glad I didn't waste my time. I ended up with c-sections anyway. Do the hopital tour! It will make you more comfortable knowing where things are. I never toured, but I did end up going to the hospital a few times before delivering and I liked knowing where I was going.

I didn't take a birthing class and I don't wish that I had. I think that since every pregnancy and every person is different you just pay for a lot of information that will most likely be useless. I didn't tour the hospital but I think it would be a good idea to make you feel more comfortable about where you'll be and where you need to go when the time comes. Oh, and I read the "what to expect" pregnancy book and though it was interesting I didn't find it that helpful when I compared it to my own personal birthing experiences. Good luck
